I caught this whopper from inside a two-person fishing boat on a lake in Hayward, Wisconsin back in 1999-ish.
The thunderstorm barreled in, without warning, and lasted all of about sixty seconds. When the rain stopped and the skies began to clear, I unloaded the final rounds of my Kodak disposable camera (remember the days of film?) knowing I would never see anything quite like it again.
And even though the picture doesn’t do a lick of justice to the reality of the moment; I still hold this photo as a reminder to how close Heaven came to earth that day.
